Dual Energy Hybrid Furnace : Easy and Efficient Melting

Furnaces are indispensable for various metal casting industries and foundries. Normally either the gas fired or the electric fired furnace are used in these industries. The primary object of these furnaces are melting the scrap metals which are later given desired shape.

Now lets have a brief outlook of advantages of gas furnaces. Gas furnaces are considered as excellent melters and are mechanically very simple. They are reliable and easy to operate and install. The burner control is also very easy. Where ever gas fuel is available and is relatively cheap it produces ample heat for rapid melting. The crucibles protects the direct exposure of the metals to the flame thereby avoiding extra oxidation and the loss of metal.

However there is also a disadvantage that is attached to the gas fired furnace. The most important disadvantage is that these furnaces cannot precisely regulate the temperature of the metal in the furnace.

The gas fired furnace normally overshoot the desired metal temperature during melting and allow the metal being held to drop below the ideal pouring temperature. The temperature accuracy of a gas-fired crucible furnace is also not very precise.

A gas furnace heats the metal to the right temperature at some time during the operating cycle but cannot keep it at that temperature. Due to this gas-fired crucible furnaces are less efficient holders of molten aluminum. Due to this limitation most of the aluminum casters use electric resistance furnaces where holding at a precise temperature is desired or where metal is held during off shifts or overnight.

This limitation of gas furnace can be overcome by electric furnaces which are able to hold metal at an exact temperature continuously and efficiently. The required power is minimum then the power actually used. This makes them great holders. However they are poor melters. The melting is both slow and expensive.

Due to the problems attached with these furnace the metal casters especially the aluminum casted tried to capitalize on the advantages of these furnaces. They use gas furnaces for melting and electric for holding. However this involves the tardy process of transferring metal from furnace to furnace or furnace to ladle which results in substantial loss of heat and time.

To solve these problems the gas and electric dual energy crucible furnace is introduced by the manufacturers. This is a useful hybrid furnace, that combines the features of both gas furnace and the electric furnace that perform both the melting and the holding functions effectively.

The dual energy hybrid fur-nace using its gas burner quickly and economically melt the metal in the crucible and its electric elements efficiently and precisely maintain the desired temperature.

In this type of furnace the electric heating element is fully encased in castable refractory panels. The conical projection over the heating chamber are engineered to maximize the absorption of heat from the combustion gases and the radiation of that heat to the crucible. This also help in the maximizing of crucible life.

Inbuilt sensors prevents the overheating panels. Electrical panels are replaceable which can be easily replaced without emptying or relining furnace. The life of crucible is also long as compared to the conventional gas furnaces. The operator can have the clear information on the status of Dual Energy Furnace and its major components through the solid state control panel. Regarding capacities the hybrid furnace are available in different sizes and capacities.
