Band Heater

In band heaters heat is transferred by means of conduction. They are used as the chief source of heating in the barrels and nozzles of insertion molding equipment and extruders.

Configuration Band Heaters
Band heaters normally heat the object in two ways.

• By clamping onto the outer diameter of a cylindrical object and heat it from the outside
  
  
• By Clamping around the inner diameter of the cylindrical object and heat it from the inside.

Band heaters use many types of insulation to prevent the heat loss. Various types of insulation used are mineral insulation, ceramic insulation, mica insulation and fiberglass insulation. There are other band heaters that are available without insulation but they are not energy efficient.

Cast Type
The cast types are though expensive yet they provide effective heat distribution and regulates cooling effectively.

Ceramic Band Heater
Ceramic band heater functions in the same manner as that of a high temperature electric furnace. It also consist of insulation that is inbuilt in the barrel.

Mica Band Heater
Mica type band heaters require a close grip over the component being heated. They are devoid of surface irregularities such as grooves.
